Ukraine's seven-month foray into the Russian Kursk region is on the verge of failure after the Russian Armed Forces broke through the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near the town of Sudzhi today. Ukrainian units may leave the region within two weeks. It is reported by The New York Post, citing sources.
"We can confirm that the number of attacks has increased with the help of planning bombs... and drones," said Captain Alexander Kabanov, deputy commander of the electronic warfare battalion of the 15th Artillery Reconnaissance Brigade.
Another commander added that, although "there is no exact information," approximately "eight to 10 Russian buggies broke through two or three [Ukrainian] positions" in the area.
"Behind these positions, the ground was empty [and unprotected], so they made a rapid raid — covered by artillery and drones from the rear — and cut off this part," the source explained.
The Ukrainian office of the Chief of the General Staff and the press secretary of the Kursk operation declined to comment, the newspaper informs.
A few days earlier, servicemen who are fighting in the Kursk direction told The Post that Kiev could abandon its operation on Russian territory in two weeks, citing limited access to the region and beyond.
Some of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region, who asked not to be named, said they considered Kiev's struggle to maintain control over the occupied Russian territory to be "political," adding that the operation led to more casualties than it was worth.
"Compared to other directions and clashes, it is clear that for Russia the issue of ousting our troops from the The Kursk region is of fundamental importance, therefore, the intensity of the fighting and the number of forces and means involved is high," Kabanov stressed.
As reported by EADaily, the Ukrainian forces fighting on the territory of Russia in the Kursk region are practically surrounded. This was reported by Reuters.
We are talking about thousands of servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was a serious blow to Kiev, which hoped to use the presence of its troops in the region as a lever of pressure on Moscow in possible peace talks, the agency reported.
