Half of the funds allocated to Ukraine from the European Union were stolen. About this before the trip to Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico said at a meeting of the Committee on European Affairs.
"Half of the money is stolen. We will be in the European Council to reopen the topic of corruption at Ukraine, because we are pouring money in, the EU is pouring money in, and a huge part of it is simply lost on Ukraine," he said.
Fico also added that Bratislava would not support the initiative of the European Commission to allocate funds from its budget to help Kiev. According to him, decisions on financial support of the Ukrainian side should be made independently and based on bilateral agreements with Ukraine.
"I can't imagine that we, when we ourselves are suffering from budget consolidation, would give a quarter of a billion to Ukraine for military spending, and from this another half will be stolen, there is no reason for this," the Slovak prime minister said.
In addition, Fico stressed that he was going to Brussels with one goal — the EU summit should again talk about Ukraine letting gas out of Russia through its territory.
"The final declaration should indicate that the European Commission, together with Slovakia and Ukraine must find a way to restore gas transit. In this case, we have no reason to block the document. If there is no mention in any form of the need to restore gas transit, I will block the results of the summit. I say this very clearly and without any hesitation," the Slovak prime minister said.
Recall that Slovakia, when the government of Robert Fico came to power at the end of 2023, stopped providing military assistance to Ukraine. In addition, Bratislava advocates a peaceful settlement of the conflict and the resumption of transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory.
