The Supreme Court of Tajikistan has proclaimed the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan as a terrorist organization and has banned its activities in the country.
This means that the party will no longer be able to publish its newspaper and to disseminate any video, audio or printed information. Its website will be closed.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the party was plotting a coup and was going to send 40 armed people to attack the Palace of Nations. Some 30 people were supposed to attack the Interior Ministry, 25 the National Security Committee and 40 the airport. The party was also going to capture the Defense Ministry and the national TV companies.
In the party’s office, the police have found 30 brochures describing the government of Tajikistan as an anti-religious cruel regime and calling for violence and terrorist acts.
The leader of the party Muhiddin Kabiri is now abroad but most of his comrades have arrested on suspicion of being privy to the mutiny organized by former Defense Minister, General Abduhalim Nazarzoda.
